Allergy Asthma, What Can You Do?
30% to 35% of all North Americans have allergy asthma. These numbers have increased significantly in the past 20 years. As a result both the sufferer and the sufferers’ family have seen a reduction in both quality of life and productivity. The impact can be devastating and even life threatening.
The allergy asthma population is on the rise yet research is on the decline. That doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you suffer from allergy asthma depending on the level of severity you can try to make improvements on your own or you may have to seek medical assistance.
There are several natural medicines that have shown excellent results for allergy asthma that is considered mild to moderate. Anyone dealing with severe problems needs to consult their doctor. Sometimes changes in lifestyle such as what you are exposing yourself to can help. Other times boosting the immune system or reprogramming it will make all the difference in the world.
Allergy asthma is one of the fastest growing allergies and asthma is becoming the fastest growing hospital admission in children and it is killing hundreds every year.
Allergies in general are growing with 2-5% of children and 10% of adults developing food allergies with many able to resolve themselves with dietary changes and often the use of herbal supplements. A small percentage will be dealing with more life threatening factors that must be addressed immediately. And many dealing with allergy asthma will need to work with their doctors.
Hay fever now affects about 25% of the population and it often leads to sinusitis and although it is often trivialized it is like allergy asthma seriously impairing a person’s ability to function.
Many of you might not realize the eczema can be a result of an allergy. In fact 10% of all eczema is allergy related and like allergy asthma you may need the help of your doctor to find the best approach to reducing it. There are many excellent herbal and natural products that can work well to eliminate eczema and reduce symptoms.
Anaphylaxis is the most serious allergy asthma – this is a reaction that can kill so suddenly those surrounding don’t realize what is occurring until it is too late. Anaphylaxis affects around 2% of the population and what happens is when the allergy strike the air ways are restricted and the person cannot breath thus suffocating.
Thankfully we are becoming much better at recognizing allergies in both children and adults. That means those suffering from allergies, and allergy asthma are getting better diagnosis and thus better treatment. In some cases with a little bit of diligence you can do a lot to help yourself using natural and herbal products. In more severe cases you will have to work with your doctor for the best outcome.
If you believe you have allergy asthma it is important to diagnose and find out exactly what is going on treating it before it gets more serious or even life threatening. There are some excellent asthma medications on the market that help you breathe and they have very few side effects.
So don’t delay if you think you have allergy asthma. You want to deal with it before it affects your quality of life.

Complete Information on Exercise induced anaphylaxis
Complete Information on Exercise induced anaphylaxis
Exercise-induced anaphylaxis is a physical form of allergy. Exercise-induced anaphylaxis occurs sometimes only when somebody is exerted within 30 minute to eat certain foods such as corn and of molluscs and shellfish of the anaphylaxis. Exercise-armatures is classically characterized by a range the symptoms occurring during the physical activity which extends from the soft cutaneous signs to the serious systemic demonstrations such as hypotension, the syncope and even death. Symptoms exercise-induced anaphylaxis tend to being less serious, and include small, conical, full altitudes of the skin known under the name of papules pruritic.
Those usually appear on the neck, the higher trunk and the arms and the legs superiors. However, the hives can appear on any part of the body. In serious cases, the angioedema can develop. Other symptoms of the anaphylaxis induced by exercise include hives, itching, brevity of breath, and hypotension. People with anaphylaxis exercise-armatures do not obtain these symptoms after a hot shower, fever, or with concern. This differentiates from the anaphylaxis exercise-armatures of urticaria cholinergic. Exercise induced anaphylaxis by causes include the various drugs, a variety of foods, alcohol, the cold survive, and menstruation.
Many people have another release which, with the exercise, causes the symptoms. Antihistamines are partially effective by preventing anaphylaxis exercise-armatures. Some patients with anaphylaxis induced by exercise must limit their physical activity significantly to avoid the progression of the episodes. The prevention of the symptoms of anaphylaxis induced by exercise is the most important aim of the treatment. To avoid the exercise or foods which cause symptoms is important. In some arrangements, the tolerance can be induced by regular exercise, but this must be under the narrow medical supervision.

The Secret to Living With Allergies
The Secret to Living With Allergies
Whether you suffer from seasonal allergies or indoor allergies to dust mites, molds and pet dander, you may be regularly faced with allergy symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing or more. You may experience allergy symptoms while outside as a result of seasonal allergies. Or, your allergic reactions can come about due to exposure to indoor allergens while cleaning, coming into contact with pets or even while sleeping!
In order to understand the secret to living with allergies, you must educate yourself about allergic triggers, environmental controls and what causes your allergy symptoms. As Part 1 of the Allergy Control Products series on The Secrets to Living with Allergies, learn some time-tested allergen avoidance steps toward living a healthier life that is free of allergy symptoms.
Step 1: Diagnose the Allergy Triggers that Cause Your Allergy Symptoms
Any allergy sufferer knows the misery that can be caused by allergy symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, headache, watery eyes, sneezing, itching, rash and even severe symptoms such as asthmatic reactions. What some allergy sufferers don’t fully know is what may be triggering their allergies, and the key to managing these symptoms is diagnosing precisely what causes allergic reactions. It may be surprising that many allergy sufferers who have mild allergy symptoms may not be able to pinpoint what they are allergic to. Without consulting with a physician to understand the nature of their allergies, these allergy sufferers are unable to proactively control their allergies.
In some cases, identifying allergy triggers is easy. For instance, if you sneeze and have trouble breathing when around cats, it’s likely that you have a pet allergy. Certain food allergies, contact with allergen sources or exposure to obvious allergy sources (such as dusty or moldy rooms) may also be easy to identify. However, many people are unaware that they can come into daily contact with large allergen sources throughout the home that cause or worsen their allergy symptoms. Understanding your sensitivity and resulting allergy reactions to these indoor allergens can have a profound impact on alleviating your allergy symptoms.
For the best understanding of your specific allergies, see your physician or allergist for allergy testing. A skin test may be performed in order to determine whether you many be allergic to dust mites, pollens, pet dander, fungi or other sources. Allergy medications or allergen injections may be recommended. Physicians can help you outline a plan for addressing your exposure to allergy triggers in order to alleviate allergy symptoms.
Step 2: Identify the Dust Mite as One of the Biggest Culprits in Causing Indoor Allergies
The top 3 indoor allergens are dust mite allergens, molds and pet dander. All three can be found in most homes and millions of dust mites can be found in even the cleanest of homes. One easy way to find allergy relief is to reduce your allergen exposure within your home. Many people who have allergies are allergic to dust mites and because they cannot be seen by the naked eye, you could be totally unaware of how much you come in contact with dust mite allergens.
Dust mites are relatives of the spider, and they thrive in the dark, warm and humid environment found in pillows, mattresses, bedding, carpets and upholstered furniture. Dust mites excrete fecal particles and it is these particles, as well as their dead bodies, that cause your allergic symptoms. In fact, “dust” is made up of dust mite allergens and other allergen particles. Inhaling these particles triggers your allergies.
Around the home, you come in regular contact with indoor allergens, but the greatest allergen exposure is to dust mite allergens. A large dust mite allergen source is your bed. If you wake up feeling congested, sneezing, with swollen eyes or a runny nose, or with other allergy symptoms, inhaling dust mite allergens while you sleep is to blame. You spend up to 8 hours a day in bed, inhaling these allergens and unwittingly aggravating your allergies. The second largest source of dust mite allergens is found in carpeting. Since many homes have carpeting, the carpet is another large area for causing allergy symptoms.
Step 3: For Indoor Allergy Relief, Control Your Environment to Eliminate Allergy Triggers
The good news is that simple steps around the home could alleviate allergy symptoms and possibly reduce your need for allergy medications and treatments. The first step is to address the bedroom due to the large amount of time spent there each day. Cover your pillow, mattress and other bedding in allergy bed encasings to create a barrier between you and the dust mite allergens in the bed. Wash your linens frequently in hot water to remove allergens. Treat your carpet with special allergy-removing carpet products, or remove carpets in favor of hardwood floors or tile. Vacuum weekly with a quality HEPA vacuum, which will contain allergens while you clean, and wear a face mask while cleaning. Keep your home’s humidity level below 50% as low humidity discourages dust mite and mold growth.

Allergy: How to Diagnose and Treat Symptoms
Allergy: How to Diagnose and Treat Symptoms
Allergies affect a large population of adults and children in the United States. They are considered the sixth leading cause of chronic illness in our country. The symptoms of this condition lead to increased sick leave and loss of productivity.
Suffering from an allergy can get in the way of our daily lives. The symptoms are sometimes unbearable to live with. These make our daily lives harder to enjoy and get in the way of doing what we like best.
There is good news! More options are available in treatments today and can be prescribed by your physician. These allow for more symptom-free days and a higher quality of life.
Allergies occur when the immune system malfunctions. It perceives a normally harmless substance as one that is harmful. Thus, when this occurs; the body produces a large number of immunoglobulin E. These antibodies cause a release of chemicals that result in itching, swelling, and tightening of the airways.
The symptoms that occur due to this process include: watery eyes, runny nose, hives, and coughing. In more severe cases, the symptoms can produce difficulty breathing and dizziness. If allergic reactions become severe, it is called anaphylaxis. Although rare, it is life-threatening. Emergency medical care is needed in many cases.
Many things may cause a person to have an allergic reaction. Hay fever is a result of pollen and can either be seasonal or year-round. Another common allergy is dust mites, which survive in dust and other fibers common to the household. Animal dander is another cause of allergy symptoms, so are mold, latex and some foods.
Most people will have a reaction to one or two allergens, while yet others will suffer many symptoms from a variety of culprits. If your one or both parents have had an allergy, you may develop one as well. If you suffer with another chronic condition such as eczema or asthma, you are more likely to develop an allergy. If your immunity is down, you are more likely to develop an allergy while you are in a weakened condition.
Sufferers of allergies, there is hope for you. There are many treatment plans available for you. Among the remedies for relief of allergy symptoms are: antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal sprays. You might also have to consider immunotherapy, known as allergy shots; if your condition is not made better with other methods. By using the prescribed shots, you will have more symptom-free days, with less medication. Speaking to your doctor, you will find the best form of treatment for your individual symptoms.

Hypoglycaemia And Allergy
Hypoglycaemia And Allergy
Hypoglycaemia is commonly found in people suffering from masked food allergies. It occurs when the body does not have enough blood sugar.
If a person has eaten excessive carbohydrate, over many years, especially refined carbohydrate such as white flour and sugar, the pancreas becomes stressed to the point where it ceases to operate normally - a very common problem today. These eating habits alter the normal, gentle production of insulin by the pancreas to that of rapid insulin output because of the excessive demands placed on it by so much carbohydrate. The human body was simply not designed to deal with the excessive amounts of carbohydrate in our so-called civilized diet. The pancreas becomes used to producing excessive amounts of insulin to cope with the large rises in blood sugar, brought about by constant carbohydrate ingestion. Finally, it becomes overstressed and tired. In this confused state, a small rise in blood sugar will often cause it to produce a disproportionate amount of insulin, resulting in low blood sugar and subsequent hypoglycaemia.
Connection between hypoglycaemia and allergy:
This is of particular importance to sufferers of masked food allergies, which, invariably, involve many of the carbohydrate foods, often in the form of refined carbohydrates, such as cereal flours and refined sugars. The need for these people to snack constantly or 'binge' on their favourite (addictive) foods, coupled with the probability that they have been excessive eaters of these foods for many years, makes them inevitable targets for hypoglycaemia. During the phase of hypoglycaemia, the individual suffers from faintness, palpitations, nausea and excessive sweating. In order to overcome these distressing symptoms, he immediately eats more refined carbohydrate, which in turn stimulates further insulin production, so that the symptoms then return. Thus, a vicious circle becomes established, due to the demands made on the pancreas by the persistent ingestion of refined carbohydrates. This would have been brought about by chronic, addictive, masked allergy to one, or more, foods, which is unknown to the sufferer.
Clinical ecologists can often relate the hypoglycaemic reaction to a specific carbohydrate, by the use of a glucose tolerance test. This allows them to identify the offending allergen, which for years may have been causing untold distress and suffering to the person concerned.
Hypoglycaemia and poor nutrition
American allergists believe that a drop in blood sugar can be caused by eating foods to which you are, unknowingly, allergic. The reason being that internal stress is caused by any allergic substance. Hormonal stress can cause a fall in blood sugar. Studies in America have discovered that up to 90 per cent of American prison inmates have hypoglycaemia, resulting from poor nutrition. This leads to severe psychological and behavioural problems. Once diets are corrected, a dramatic improvement in attitude can result. These people can be said to be the really unlucky victims of food intolerance. Unfortunately, whilst some prisons are taking steps to improve diet, others are not. Such a case is the Alabama prison which feeds inmates on hamburgers and other fast foods.

The link between IBS and allergies
The link between IBS and allergies
Author: dave mcevoy
Despite the fact that IBS is the most common gastro-intestinal disorder seen by gastroenterologists today, very little is actually known about what causes it. Recently, however, researchers at Rush university in Chicago discovered that a significant number of people with allergic or atopic conditions such as rhinitis, asthma and eczema also have symptoms of IBS and found a clear link between IBS and allergies. This of course could have implications in the future regarding possible treatment options for IBS.
The study
The Chicago study led by Dr Mary C. Tobin and her colleagues involving 125 adults found that the prevalence of IBS was higher in those with seasonal rhinitis (2.67 times) and atopic eczema (3.85 times) and 12 out of 41 of the patients had both asthma and IBS. Tobin et al found a clear link between Atopy and IBS in this study and concluded that people in this sub group of IBS, or those who have atopic IBS should be differentiated from those with non-atopic IBS due to the fact that they could have "distinct pathophysiologic features that could benefit from specific therapeutic interventions". This means that those with atopic IBS could perhaps find more relief by having treatment plans formulated that take into consideration other factors related to their allergies as well as their IBS symptoms.
What is IBS?
IBS is not a disease and is better described as a collection of symptoms which include abdominal pain and bloating along with abnormal bowel movements resulting in diarrhoea, constipation or both. Other symptoms can include excessive flatulence (wind), mucous in the stools, a sense of urgency and straining whilst trying to perform a bowel movement. What makes IBS difficult to treat is that no two people will present with exactly the same symptoms or degree of severity, making any effective treatment plan for IBS quite complex and more a process of trying various options to see what works.
Also, rather than there being one single identifiable cause of irritable bowel syndrome; it would appear instead that many factors are involved which can include the likes of food intolerances, bacterial overgrowth, enzyme deficiencies, lifestyle and stress. Although stress itself doesn't cause IBS it can make the symptoms of IBS much worse. What is known about IBS is that there is no cure and no single treatment plan that is suitable for all IBS sufferers.
Approximately 20% or 1 in 5 of the UK population suffers from IBS although this figure could be higher. In the past there were some difficulties associated with diagnosing IBS as up until very recently, IBS was only diagnosed when all other possible conditions had been ruled out, which takes time. Also, many people, particularly those with milder symptoms, may not seek help for their symptoms so are likely go undiagnosed.
Many previous studies have shown that exposure to certain allergens can produce symptoms of IBS in some people but if, as this latest study suggests, there is a clear link between IBS symptoms and atopic allergies, then this could open the door for new ways of treating at least some groups of people with IBS.
What is meant by Atopic IBS?
Atopy is a term used to describe conditions that arise as a result of an allergic reaction such as asthma, atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis and hay fever, so people with atopic IBS are those with symptoms of IBS who also have one or more co-existent allergic conditions. It is believed that around 15% of the population suffer from atopic conditions.
Why is there a link Between IBS and Allergies?
No one really knows why although it is thought that mast cells in the gut may be activated by allergens and set off the symptoms of IBS. Many people have found that by eliminating food that triggers their IBS they can obtain a significant amount of relief. Also, some people when taking antihistamines to treat their allergic conditions have also found that their IBS symptoms ease off at the same time.
Currently, treatment for IBS involves finding ways of dealing with the symptoms, which basically means diet and lifestyle changes along with anti-diarrhoeal agents for diarrhoea, laxatives for constipation, painkillers for pain and even low dose antidepressants to promote normal bowel movements. Non-drug treatments for IBS include probiotics, herbal remedies and various supplements and digestive aids. The identification of a link between allergies and IBS could perhaps pave the way for more effective forms of treatment for IBS sufferers who are also suffering from allergic conditions. No doubt future research will reveal more.

Natural Remedy For Allergy
Natural Remedy For Allergy
Allergy is a chronic disease which occurs when the immune system of the body does not destroy the invaders who enter into the body. This if not treated at its initial stage then it paves a way to other chronic disease.

Bee Pollen and Allergies
Bee Pollen and Allergies
Bee pollen and allergies has been a controversial issue for
quite some time due to the severe allergic reactions some people suffer after a bee sting. Some bee pollen allergic sufferers react so severely that they experience anaphylactic reaction in which the throat, mouth, and tongue swell up to a point of closing the throat making it impossible to breathe. There have been many who have died from bee stings however the bee sting allergy and bee pollen and allergies are somewhat muddy. Let’s attempt to clarify bee pollen and allergy treatment.
Bee Sting Allergy Vs. Bee Pollen Allergy
While many people will react adversely to the sting of the bee, those same people seem to benefit from bee pollen and allergy therapy. Bee pollen that is used to treat allergies reduces the production of histamine, which causes allergic reactions in the body such as the common reaction of hay fever.
It’s your defenses reacting to something introduced to the body, that it is combating and causes allergic reactions. Bee pollen and allergies work together by gradually desensitizing the body to these antibodies that it reacts with. The next time this substance is introduced to the body, after having bee pollen therapy, your body realizes that it is not that harmful and does not produce that allergic reaction.
Bee Pollen and Allergy Benefits
Bee pollen has been known to have many overall benefits to the human body and has many benefits. The benefits of bee pollen and allergy treatment is that it has been known to strengthen the respiratory system, is a supply of protein that aids the body in building a natural defense against allergic reactions. A study of patients conducted by Dr. Leo Conway, M.D. showed all of his patients that were treated with bee pollen and allergy therapy, showed marked improvement and became free of all allergy symptoms regardless of geography or diet. Bee pollen and allergy therapy is becoming widely known for its effectiveness in warding off allergic reactions.
Bee Pollen Warnings
Bee pollen should not be taken if you have had prior reactions to bee stings or bee pollen. In some cases, anaphylactic shock has been reported. If you have a history of any kind of anaphylactic shock from any allergic reaction, bee pollen and allergy treatment may not be the correct course of therapy for you. If you suffer from asthma, please see your doctor before starting bee pollen and allergy therapy. Bee pollen contains allergens that may interact adversely with asthma.

All About Contact Allergy
All About Contact Allergy
An allergic reaction caused by the skin's contact with a
substance that is usually harmless to others is called contact allergy. You may suddenly become allergic to a substance that you have used all your life. Allergy occurs within 48 hours of contact with the allergen substance. The part of the skin that contacts the allergen becomes itchy and red and develops vesicles. Sometimes swelling, weeping, and blistering may also occur.
The rash can spread to other parts of the body. However, this happens rarely. Sometimes it takes months or weeks for the allergy to heal, because the allergic substance stays in contact constantly. Allergic contact dermatitis is the term given to rashes occurring due to contact allergy. Usually adults face the problem of allergic contact dermatitis. It mostly occurs from contact with poison ivy and poison oak.
Substances Causing Contact Allergy
Generally, harmless substances cause contact allergy. Metals like nickel and chrome, skin care products comprising fragrances and lanoline, and certain medications cause contact allergy. A patch test carried under the surveillance of a physician confirms the occurrence of contact allergy. Patch test is carried out on the upper back of the person's body. A simultaneous testing of several allergens is done and the results are obtained within 48 to 96 hours. Once a person develops allergy to a particular substance it stays for life.
Treatment Available
The available treatment varies by the type of rash or allergy. It is recommended in all cases, however, to stop using all products on the exposed area. Use only the treatment prescribed by the dermatologist. Usually the dermatologist prescribes a cortisone ointment preparation. Because it is a strong medication, use it initially for a week then visit your dermatologist and have the allergy checked. Follow what your doctor says.
Usually it takes two weeks for the allergy to subside. After the healing period is over search for the chemical/substance you are allergic to. Do this by repeating the use of all products you used priory. Use them one at a time with a gap of one week between uses of each product. This way you will easily detect the allergic product. Avoid using this particular chemical/substance in the future. However, when unable to determine the cause, certain patch tests may help to obtain precise and detailed results.
If you are thinking that allergy is only a simple disease, you may be quite wrong. You may be afflicted by only one or two types of allergies. This may lead you to feel that allergies are limited to only those types. However, if you take a look around and see other people suffering from various other allergies you will soon realize that allergies are definitely not as simple as they sound. You will be flabbergasted to know the variety of the types of allergies that occur.
Allergies can be roughly classified under three different categories. Almost all the varied kinds of allergies may be place under them. Let us take a look at the three different categories and the types that come under them.

First Step to Uproot Allergies: Test and Diagnosis
First Step to Uproot Allergies: Test and Diagnosis
In order to cure the problems of allergies you need to first undergo the process of testing and diagnosis. There are times when you do not even know that you are allergic to a certain thing. Again, it is not necessary that the symptoms of allergies always mean you are suffering from allergy. It is under these circumstances that you need to go through tests in order to diagnose your problem and find a proper remedy for it.
The different tests that are done on a supposedly allergic person help in finding out the substances that he/she is allergic to. It may so happen that you have been witnessing signs of allergy but the test confirms otherwise. This shows that you are not suffering from allergy and may be having a different problem altogether.
There are mainly two ways of testing and diagnosing a person suspected with allergy. Let us now take a peek at these methods.
Skin Test
The scratch test is a test for allergy at the grass root level and is perhaps the most popular allergy test. The substance that is suspected to be an allergen is placed in contact with the skin. After some time the skin on that particular area is scratched. If you are allergic to that specific substance your skin will react to it abnormally within 20 minutes. Injecting the testing substance in the layer just below the skin is a variation of the test.
Blood Test
The blood test done to diagnose allergy is also known as RAST or radioallergosorbent test. In this method the quantity of IgE antibodies in your serum will be found out. If you have eczema or anaphylaxis you will have to under this test, as you cannot under the skin test. Prolonged medication may also require you to do this test. Also, you may not be comfortable with the skin test.
Alternate Method
There is a third type of testing method called the eliminating method. This is generally done in the case of food allergies. Avoiding the specific food items that are suspected to be causing the allergy is the technique used in this eliminating test. This test may also be used for drug allergies. After you have been diagnosed for allergy you should go for a proper treatment.
Home is where we spend most of our time and therefore it is important to keep your house free from allergens that can trigger of an allergic attack. So when you sleep in your bedroom, when you watch television in your living room, when you have food at the dining room or when you are spending time at the garden, make sure that the environment around you are free from allergy causing factors.

Hypersensitivity After Concussion or TBI
The term "agnosia" refers to any sensory interpretation deficit. Following brain damage, many people lose the ability to distinguish between ambient noise and the primary conversation, or between the background and foreground of a visual scene. Their formerly effortless system of filtration no longer works. What used to occur automatically now takes conscious effort. Consequently, people with TBI usually fatigue easily, especially in the presence of multiple stimulation.
If you suffer from any type of agnosia, you can compensate to some degree with external aids. Use earplugs in restaurants and crowds, so you can listen more easily to the people actually talking to you. Wear sunglasses if lights bother you. Avoid places with overhead fans, or do not face them. Wear comfortable clothing.
You can also buy a big, floppy hat to keep yourself from becoming overwhelmed. I used to wear a large hat whenever I wrote in coffee shops. The wide brim tuned out distractions, allowing me to devote full concentration to my laptop screen. I no longer need the hat, but wearing one helped me write over 100 pages of my TBI recovery guide!
When selecting an apartment or house, you probably want to pay particular attention to the neighbors and any noises, smells or streetlights you might encounter. When calculating the cost of a location, consider how it will affect your health:
• If you cannot get a full night's sleep, then how will that play out in your ability to earn money the next day?
• If your neighbor's bass gives you a headache, then how does the cost of medication (sometimes up to $14 / pill) factor into your estimated rent or mortgage?
• If intense smells trigger reactions, then you may not want to rent or buy near a restaurant or garbage dump.
• If you suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia, you will particularly want to avoid places with an obvious mold problem.
Safety might become a larger concern than it was before your health turned south. Attacks cause trauma to anyone, but can you physically afford another blow to your brain? If you no longer drive, then the proximity of stores, restaurants, and public transportation will also become important.
Of course, aiming for total control of your environment will not allow you to live a normal life. Part of your recovery will include learning to tolerate other people's schedules and needs. Visine For Allergies - Does It Relieve Allergy Eye Symptoms?
Do you have an allergy?
Sometimes our eyes water as a reaction to excessive smoke in a room but once you have left the room it can clear up, if it doesn't then your eyes may be watering as the result of an allergic reaction. You can have an allergic reaction to all kinds of things, including smoke, pollen, seasonal changes and pet allergies. If you do think that you have an allergy that is affecting your eye then you might want to try Visine for allergies as many sufferers have found this to be effective.
Symptoms of an allergy
When you suffer from an allergy that affects your eyes this can often be felt in one or more of the following ways:
* Itching at the corners of the eye and around it
* Tearing or involuntary watering of the eye
* Soreness - can be a direct result of the allergy or if you rub your eyes
* Swelling and sensitivity to light - if these two things occur then you should consult a doctor.
Sometimes a cold compress can relieve itching around your eyes and may reduce and swelling that is beginning to take place. Alternatively it is well worth looking at Visine for allergies as it is especially designed to treat the sensitive eye areas - they manufacture a range of eye drops that are designed to deal with many different forms of eye allergy.
Seasonal Allergies
Are you one of the many people who suffer from seasonal allergies, i.e. allergies that only make themselves felt at certain times of the year? You may, like many others suffer from what is commonly known as hay fever - an allergy and reaction to the amount of pollen in the air. One of the problems with this type of allergy, particularly if you are susceptible to grass, is that they mix with other allergens and worsen the symptoms.
Symptoms often start with itchy eyes and can also involve sneezing; as well as tearing and swelling. Your doctor may prescribe antihistamines but you will need to take care when using these as they do not agree with everyone.
If you know when your seasonal allergies are likely to start then you should be able to take some precautions to avoid having to use antihistamines. It is well worth looking at some of the natural products that are around now - Visine for allergies is very good at reducing redness and minor swelling; although if this worsens then you should consult a practitioner.

Allergy Furnace Filters - Can They Help With Your Allergies?
Indoor air pollution can often result from dust mites and pollen; pet hair and dander; reduced air circulation and ventilation; high concentration of organic materials; and chemicals from common household products such as toluene, chlorine, or even formaldehyde. These contaminants can then lead to exacerbated allergy symptoms such as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, sneezing, watery eyes, and other respiratory disorders.
Fortunately for allergy and asthma suffers, allergy furnace filters are a relatively inexpensive way to clean the air, and they have been shown to be over 90% effective at capturing larger particulates from the air such as dust and dander. These high efficiency air filters come in the form of pleated panels that are inserted into the filter opening of a home's furnace or air conditioning unit, and they are perfect for asthma or allergy sufferers, as they do not use harmful ionizers or ozone to remove pollutants. Some allergy furnace filters can be washed or reused, but many models are conveniently disposable, and can be tossed when dirty.
An allergy furnace filter usually consists of a frame and filter media. The frame allows the filter to withstand the pressure created by the heating and air conditioning system. When choosing a high-efficiency allergy furnace filter, look for models that are composed of highly specialized, synthetic filtration media, as these provide a combination of electrostatic and mechanical filtration to ensure sustained performance. The gradient layer of this media has the ability to capture particulates while minimizing airflow resistance, and will not absorb moisture that will lead to the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and mold.
Also, another factor to consider when choosing an allergy furnace filter is the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, or MERV rating. This measurement is a rating of a filter's ability to capture larger particles between 0.3 and 10 microns, and can be very helpful in comparing the performance of various furnace filters. The higher the MERV rating, the more effective a filter is at trapping specific types of particles.
Lastly, another added benefit of using an allergy furnace filter is ease in maintenance. Installation is usually quite simple, as no tools are required. To install an allergy furnace filter, follow these simple steps:
1. Remove any plastic or paper wrap from the filter, and do not cut, crimp, bend, damage, or remove the cardboard frame around the filter media.
2. Remove and dispose of the existing filter in your home furnace or air conditioning system, and keep in mind that the used filter can contain particulates that, with improper handling, can be re-introduced into the air. Immediately place the soiled filter in a plastic garbage bag, tie the top, and dispose of it properly.
3. Insert the allergy furnace filter in the filter opening of your home furnace.
Be aware that while allergy furnace filters are very effective at trapping harmful particulates, they are best used in combination with an air purifier as part of an all-out campaign to reduce airborne allergens.

Do You Suffer From Allergies?
An 'allergy' is basically when your body reacts in a sensitive way to a substance that most other people do not react to. There are a number of substances in the environment which can cause allergic reactions which may vary from a mild reaction to violent reactions.
Allergies can range from intolerance to certain foods and substances to reactions resulting from pollution. Reactions can occur immediately, within a few minutes or may even be delayed for several hours or even several days. These reactions can occur in any part of the body but most commonly occur in the nose, eyes, ears, skin, chest or intestines.
Symptoms of allergy can be quite varied and may include:
Recurring
headache
Migraine
Dizziness
Irritability
Depression
Neuralgia
Sneezing
Conjunctivitis
Eczema
Heart burn
Hay fever
Indigestion
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Asthma
Stuffy or runny nose
Shortness of breath
Swelling of the face and eyes
The same allergic substance may cause different symptoms in different people.
Causes
Having an allergic reaction may indicate a lower resistance and possible internal disharmony caused by a bad diet and lifestyle. They can be caused in babies by feeding them some foods too early, such as cereal, meat, corn, eggs, honey, whole milk, before they reach the age of 10 to 12 months of age. Babies are yet to develop the proper enzymes needed for their digestion and therefore can become allergic to those foods.
Another possible cause for an increase in allergies is that many foods today contain numerous chemicals, preservatives and additives. It is believed that allergic symptoms are often the body's reaction to stress. If a person suffers from chronic stress they may become sensitive to some common foods or substances and therefore emotional and psychological stress can lead to allergies.
Treatment
The first thing you need to do to treat your allergy is to identify the source. You can treat many mild allergic reactions without knowing the source, but for severe allergic reactions the source must be know so you can avoid the source.
Even with minor allergic reactions it can help in the long term to know what you are reacting to. In some cases you may have an immediate reaction which will make it easy to identify the substance you are allergic to. Often however it may not be immediate and it can be quite difficult to pinpoint exactly what is giving you the reaction. Once you have discovered the source of your allergic reaction, try to avoid the substance if it is possible.
It is also possible in many cases to build up immunity to the substance. To do this it is quite important to build good general health and immune system. A good way to start building your immunity is to fast on fresh fruit juices for four or five days. Repeat this fast from time to time will result in a better tolerance to substances that you previously didn't tolerate.
After the fruit juice fast, have a diet of vegetables or fruits such as carrots, grapes or apples, for one week. After that more food is added to the diet. A week later the third food is added and so on. After four weeks, the protein foods can be introduced, one at a time. If there is an allergic reaction to a newly introduced food, it should be discontinued and a new food tried. In this way all real allergens can be eventually eliminated from the diet.
In Chinese medicine it has been found that five drops of castor oil in a little juice or water taken on an empty stomach in the morning can be highly beneficial for allergies in the skin and nasal passages.

Allergies - Reducing Bedroom Dust Mites
In this article we're going to discuss simple steps for reducing the dust mite allergens in your bedroom.
Dust mites. You can't see them but they're there. And they do most of their attacking at night while you're asleep. Why? Because dust mites generally live in your bed; on the mattress, the pillows, your blanket, just about anywhere you can think of. Enough of these little creatures can make your life a living nightmare.
But there are simple steps you can take to help reduce the number of dust mites you have to share your bed with and hopefully make your sleeping experience a little more enjoyable.
First, a little bit about what dust mites are. They are actually microscopic spider-like creatures that feed on the flakes of your skin. They reside anywhere that is considered to be a "dust trap" which include the things already mentioned plus your draperies, carpets and upholstery. And since dust is just about anywhere, dust mites are just about anywhere as well. Dust mite exposure is a significant cause of indoor allergies, which are much different from outdoor allergies. These allergies can lead to asthma and hay fever. Studies show that over 45% of homes in the United States have concentrations of dust mites that are considered to be dangerous enough to cause asthmatic conditions.
So just how do we reduce the number of dust mites in our homes?
For starters we can cover our beds with dust proof covers. These are covers that are specially made to go over our mattresses and pillows. These covers are not cheap but the good that they do far outweighs the cost. These covers can be purchased in a department store that sells bedding supplies.
Another thing that can be done is to vacuum regularly, most preferably with a vacuum that has a hepa filter so that the allergens don't end up just going back into the air when the vacuum is emptied. A hepa filter and bagless vacuum is your best bet for keeping the allergens out of your home after you have picked them up off the floor.
Another thing that is very effective for getting rid of the dust mites in your home is to steam clean as many items as possible. Some articles can't be steam cleaned so you have to use caution when doing this so as not to ruin any of your items. The reason steam cleaning works is because dust mites need a dry environment to live in. The moisture from the steaming is what helps kill them.
It should be noted that while these procedures do reduce the level of dust mite concentrations below severe symptom levels, they do not reduce them to the point where people do not still have sensitivity to the allergens, such as sneezing and coughing. Unfortunately it is impossible to completely reduce the level of dust mite allergens to absolute zero unless you are living inside a bubble and the technology for such an environment is not quite yet with us.

Allergies And Children Health Issues
The thought of children health issues can cause any parent to panic. Any
parents' main concern is the health of their child and just the thought of having to deal with an ill child can be very heartbreaking. Most children make it through childhood just fine, but some will come in contact with children health issues.
One of the biggest issues to plague kids is allergies. With so many allergens floating in the air, kids are more and more prone to allergies. If parents are given the right health tools, they can help their child learn to live a happy and normal life with any allergy that may be present.
There are many concerns with children health issues in today's society when it comes to allergies. One is dealing with a child who is too young to tell their parents how they feel about a symptom they may have. Many times a child will develop an allergy and if the parents do not know the signs to look for, the child's symptoms can go unnoticed for quite a while.
In the long run, this can bring discomfort to both the child and the parents. However, if a person does a little research on the internet, they can obtain free health information concerning the issue at hand.
Another way that parents can learn to cope with children health issues is to find a resourceful allergy center that will provide accurate information so they can further learn to deal with issues such as negative reactions and asthma. A ton of allergy information is available at one's finger tips if they just take the time to do a little research.
A good place to start is on a reputable website, such as Web MD. Here, one can find precise information that the web has to offer with regard to dealing with a children health issue. However, if a child has negative reactions symptoms, the best way to cope is to see one's pediatrician. A pediatrician can direct parents and their child on how to muddle through living with an allergy.
Children health issues can be a difficult subject for parents to learn to cope with. However, if the issue at hand is allergies, then parents can put their minds at ease knowing much information and treatment is available. In turn, most kids can go on to enjoy their childhood without having their allergies slow them down and parents can relax and enjoy these precious years.

Allergies and Sinusitis Infections
Sinusitis infections usually begin with cold or allergy symptoms such as
runny nose, cough, and congestion. But it is important to know the difference because it is not taken care of in time, it can lead to more severe symptoms.
A sinusitis infection usually is caused by a cold or an allergy. When a cold or allergy occurs, swelling of the sinus cavity lining happens. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia is a part of the sinuses which usually flushes out the bacteria and mucus. When a great amount of inflammation occurs, the cilia can no longer function as it should and so the bacteria and mucus become trapped in the cavities which then causes the sinusitis infection to occur.
The symptoms of an acute sinusitis infection generally may include cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection becomes chronic and lasts for twelve or more weeks a person may experience additional symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and fatigue may also occur. Other symptoms may also occur depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies in.
There are several medications and other treatments that are meant to offer relief to the sinusitis infection. One of the most frequently prescribed and purchased treatments are oral medications such as antibiotics, decongestants, and anti-fungals. Oral medications work on infections and other problems by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area. In the sinus cavities there are very small amount of blood vessels. Since the oral medications use the blood stream to travel to the area where they are needed, only a small amount of the medication can be delivered to the sinusitis infection which may lead to little or no relief from the treatment. Also since these medications use the blood stream, it then is distributed through out the rest of the body also which can lead to many side effects such as stomach pain, drowsiness, amongst many others depending on which type of medication is being used.
There are also many treatments which are directly distributed into the sinus cavities. These treatments are generally meant to help moisten the cilia so that it can flush out the trapped mucus and bacteria. Nasal sprays are commonly used and can be prescribed or purchased over the counter. The nasal sprays may offer some relief to the lower part of the sinuses but often times may not help the infection since their particle sizes are too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. The same holds true for a treatment called irrigation which distributes saline up to the sinus cavities. Irrigation is also very messy and generally unsuccessful in offering relief.
A newer treatment that is used nasally is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications are used very much like nebulized asthma medications. These antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are broken down into a small particle size so that it can pass the inflammation and make its way up to the sinusitis infection. Generally a small amount of these medications are used which results in little to no side affects in the rest of the body.
There are many treatment options out there which are meant to offer relief for sinusitis infections. It is important to find the treatment that works best for you and to treat the infection before it becomes chronic and surgery is then left as the only option.

Allergies Got You Down?
Try a neti pot! It is used to irrigate the sinus passages. The neti pot is filled with a gentle salt water solution and then poured into one nostril and then drained out the other nostril. The water goes through the nasal passages, gently washing and clearing out debris like old mucus, dust, pollen and other irritants that we breathe in-- and that tend to cause allergies.
Using it is a yogic technique of cleansing and its very common practice for people in India who use neti pots as part of their daily routine, like brushing their teeth. Where can you purchase a neti pot? Just about any health food store, or online, for around $20. For first time users I recommend a ready made saline solution, as too high a salt concentration can irritate the nose.
Six Feet Under fans might remember George getting Nate a neti pot as a wedding gift.
Also address the reason why you may be congested the first place!
When you've got a cold and you're blowing your nose until its raw you may remember your mom telling you to avoid dairy products because dairy makes mucous. Well, Mom's right! Even if you don't have a cold you may find yourself blowing your nose a lot-- and it could be related to what you are eating.
In Chinese Medicine, dairy produces dampness, one form of which is excess mucous. Although its not just dairy products that cause dampness. The "big five" as I like to call them are dairy, wheat, eggs, sugar and bananas. Try an experiment, cut out the big five for a couple of weeks and see if you notice any change in your mucous production--or anything else of note. Those with allergies or asthma may notice a difference as well.

Top 7 Tips To Treat And Prevent Allergies
Typical allergy symptoms include sneezing, nasal itching, and a dripping nose, along with congestion and red, swollen itchy eyes. Whether or not, you'll develop an allergy is part genetics and part environment. A child with one allergic parent has about a 30 to 50 percent chance of getting allergies, while odds rise to approximately 60 to 80 percent if both parents have allergies. Also, exposure to a high level of allergies early on puts you at risk of developing allergic symptoms later. Here are some ways that can help people with allergies to breathe easier.
1. Salt Your Nose
Over-the-counter saline nasal sprays are a safe way of loosening mucus. It is not a drug so you can use it as often as you want. To make your own salty solution, take a half-teaspoon of salt dissolved in eight ounces of lukewarm water, put it in a bulb syringe and flush it into your nose while leaning forward over the sink so that it can drip out. Look for bulb syringes at your local drugstore.
2. Make A Cool Compress
For itchy, red, swollen eyes, take a clean washcloth, run it under cool water, put it over your eyes until it is warm and try again, if you need to.
3. Seal Your Mattress
One of the biggest problems with dust is dust mites, teeny creatures that live on dust, skin flakes and other bits of microscopic household debris that collects in bedding, furniture and curtains. So zipping a plastic cover over your mattress is a good way of limiting dust mite exposure.
4. Press Duct Tape Into Service
Putting duct tape on the mattress zipper, sealing off the escape route for dust mite.
5. Dry Up
Molds and dust mites thrive in warm, humid conditions. So to reduce molds and dust mite levels, keep a dehumidifier in your bedroom and one in your family room.
6. Clean The Dehumidifier
Dehumidifiers should be cleaned out every week. Otherwise, molds will proliferate.
7. Simplify
Getting rid of dust mite havens - especially in your bedroom - is a sneeze-free way of coping. Have a clutter-free room with no fabrics or banners on the wall. You shouldn't have carpeting, because vacuuming doesn't clear the dust mites out. Stuffed toys trap dust and should be removed. To have frequent changing of sheets and regular washing of bed linens, pillows, and bedspreads.
